JOHANN FRIEDRICH JUDEICH was born in 1828 in Dresden, Germany. At an early age, he discovered his love for nature. He went on to study forestry in Tharandt (Germany) and Leipzig (Germany). After he got his degree, he was employed by count Morzin in Böhmen (modern day Czech Republic). He established a nature conversation centre there which became a role model for the whole area. In 1866, at the age of 38, he became the director at the Academy of Forestry in Tharandt. In 1871, he published his book Die Forsteinrichtung ("The Forestry Facility") which was translated into several languages. Johann Friedrich received many awards at home and abroad (Austria, Italy, Russia and Brazil). His incessant work ethic ("I do not have time to be sick") finally led to a perforation of the stomach and his early death in 1894. In 2000, the Technical University of Dresden in Tharandt dedicated a building to Johann Friedrich Judeich (Judeich-Bau). In Dresden, a street was named after him (Judeich-Strasse). |
